I woke up early on my second full day in Bangkok eager and ready to go. The goal was to make it to Khao Son Road. Khao Son is a famous backpacker destination. In the movie The Beach, Richard (leo dicaprio) starts off on this road, drinks a little snake blood and meets all sorts of crazy people.
After about an hour into the trip to Khao Son I realized I went the completely opposite direction. In the photo above you see Bangkok from where I was. Whoops.
After another hour I finally made it about 2 miles from where I wanted to go. So I decided to walk. Within a minute a was in this amazing temple.
Finally made it! And what an experience. Khao Son is basically a road with tons of bars, shops and street vendors. Oh…and TONS of backpackers. I’m pretty sure they all just come here to party.
I hadn’t eaten yet so I went straight for the food. A little street cart was cooking up Pad Thai for 30-50 baht ($1-1.50). Yep I stopped!
I continued to walk around as I ate. Khao Son isn’t very long so I ended up walking through the side streets and other roads parallel to Khao Son.
And then the sun went down…
I ended up taking a seat a pub for a beer. My feet were a little tired and I wanted to just sit and take in the sights, sounds and smells. Within a few minutes I was chatting with the people next to me. And a few minutes later it was 4 German travelers and I having a good. time. One beer turned into a few more 🙂
It was funny watching people come up to the bar and look, think, talk to each other. They just don’t know…
I don’t think so.
So amazing. Buy a beer for a dollar and sit down and have the best foot massage ever for $4.
This was cool. You just put your feet in and these little fish eat the dead skin off. I heard it is quite nice. ha.
After leaving Khao Son, my new friends and I headed to Thong Lo. Which is close to where I stay but quite far from where we were. So we took a cab and then the BTS. I just thought this was funny. A lone table as the “security checkpoint”.
The street market view from the BTS station. LOTS of great food.
And that’s where the night ended. Eating late night Thai food.
It was a great second day in Bangkok. I think I know my way around now! 🙂
